Your tour begins outside of Jewell Railway Station. (If you arrive early, nip over to Nice One coffee for delicious, locally roasted coffee.)
Your first set of stops will be at Melbourne “op shops” (also known as charity shops, thrift stores, second-hand stores, depending on where you’re from) and an eclectic consignment store, one of the only ones in Melbourne! Explore the bustling second-hand shopping scene as your guide will help you design a totally new look. It’s a rite of passage to find a treasure in a Melbourne op shop, and you might be surprised at what you discover!
Next, go meet local fashion designers who make clothing in the shops and nearby factories where they sell their unique designs. These designers take an ethical and approach to their production. Browse through sustainable and locally-made fabrics, hand-printed garments and hand-crafted jewellery.
Your tour will lead you down one of Melbourne’s most exciting roads, lined with Victorian architecture and a plethora of locally-owned shops. Your guide will take you to meet a variety of shop owners who will share with you their passion.
Later, discover a comic book studio where all the comic books are hand-drawn by artists on site. Hear about their current exciting projects and watch art in action. It’s possible to have a caricature drawn by a local artist at the studio.
Next, nip around the corner to an alleyway containing independent galleries and artisanal cheese and wine shops. Here we have the opportunity to pop into a store selling jewellery made by local Melbourne jewellers, and another containing tote bags and more local-made comic books and prints.
Toward the end of your tour, you may be working up a hunger, so your guide will be happy to recommend a great spot for lunch. Enjoy a well-earned nibble after a satisfying day’s shopping.
Your tour will begin Meet at “Nice One” cafe next to Jewell Train Station (15A Union St Brunswick).
